Note from UK nurse working at the Forensic HospitalThe hospital is absolutely breathtaking!!!...the facilities are beyond any of my expectations...the security...the risk assessment process is so comprehensive it is frightening when i compare it to what we do in the uk...the australian (NSW anyway) is so far ahead...the orientation is for a 3 week period - and no-one can commence work in the hospital until they have completed this - that means everyone!!!...doctors, OT's, nurses all having to communicate and discuss - amazing!!!... It is a different process to rent property - particularly for british nurses - so please be prepared to spend some time - and money - on temporary accommodation first!!!...I am paying $500 per week for my 2 bedroom town house...there are cheaper areas but all of the suburbs are quite expensive...we are only 15 minutes on the bus from sydney after all!!!...if you rent you do not pay 'council tax' or water rates in most properties... there are no television licences in australia... fuel is less than half the cost of the uk... so really even if the rent initially seems high it balances out that potentially you will be paying less than you do in the uk...and the salaries are higher...(for nurses anyway)...12 hour shifts means you get lots of time off...pay is every two weeks...lunch breaks are paid and there are breaks morning and afternoon...and of course its sunny!!!...most suburbs are a maximum of 10 minutes by bus or car to a beach!!!... got to go now i'm going out for the evening with one of my new colleagues!!!... oh yeah the locals are very friendly!!!... ps: public transport is exceptional... and very reasonably priced...
