Overview of Bloomfield Campus
Bloomfield
Campus in Orange offers a comprehensive range of inpatient, day, and
community mental health services on its 28 hectare campus on Forest
Road, Orange NSW. The campus provides inpatient services to residents of
this area living with a mental illness. Mental Health staff are also
based in a number of Community Mental Health facilities throughout the
area. Staff provide safe and best practice mental health programs in the
areas of promotion / prevention, early intervention and treatment,
rehabilitation and recovery including long-term care.
Orange Health Services, Bloomfield Campus
The
service is part of the re-development of Orange and Bathurst Hospitals
and the previous Bloomfield Hospital. As a result of the redevelopment
Bloomfield is developing new and exciting services for the people who
might need to use their facilities and therefore creates exciting job
opportunities for staff. For that reason, we hope that you enjoy working
in this exciting time for mental health.
A new Orange Health
Service is currently under development on Forest Road at the present
Bloomfield campus and will consist of acute, community and allied health
services from the existing Orange Base Hospital as well as Mental
Health Services. Some services will remain in their present location,
including Community Mental Health (Curran Centre) and Alcohol &
Other Drug Services at Kite Street.
The new Health Service will
have a capacity for approximately 450 beds comprising acute and mental
health services.
Mental Health Services include Acute Mental Health,
Mental Health Intensive Care Unit (MHICU), and High Dependency Unit
(HDU). Patients will be admitted in accordance with the NSW Mental
Health Act 2007 and accepted criteria for inpatient care. A 20 bed
State-wide medium secure rehabilitation unit will provide a tertiary
medium secure mental health rehabilitation service. Those cared for in
this unit will have a safe and secure environment for long term
rehabilitation of complex behavioral problems resulting from mental
illness.
A 20 bed Forensic unit will provide a state-wide tertiary
medium secure forensic mental health service. Those cared for in this
unit will include those who have committed a serious criminal offence.
Care to all patients will be guided by the forensic provisions of the
Mental Health Act 1997. The previous admission unit, Canobolas Clinic,
will be refurbished to a 20 bed open care step down unit. Child &
Adolescent Mental Health will have a new 10 bed unit to be co-located
with Paediatrics servicing the Greater Western AHSs and Greater Southern
Area Health Service.
A State Mental Health Service for Acute
Older Persons unit will comprise 12 beds in a purpose built acute mental
health inpatient facility designed to care for older people who present
with acute episodes of mental illness, and very severe Behavioral and
Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD).
